Venues

Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)

The MCG is a world class stadium with a current capacity of 100,000+. For the Olympics the great Southern stand would be redeveloped to be the same as the Ponsford, Olympic and members stand, this would increase the capacity of the stadium to over 120,000+. The MCG would be home to the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletics events.

 

Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Center (MSAC)

MSAC was the proposed aquatics center for the 1996 Melbourne Olympic bid after the bid failed the center was still constructed and was used as the aquatics center for the 2006 commonwealth games. No work is needed for the center for the 2028 Olympics. The center may be the home for Synchronized Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, and Table Tennis.

Olympic Aquatic Center (new venue)

The Olympic Aquatic Center (or Possibly the Fraser Aquatic Center) will be a purpose built center adjacent to MSAC or Located in Melbourne Olympic Park for the swimming events (if located in Olympic Park Synchronized Swimming, Diving, Water Polo as well) and have a capacity of 25,000+. This new venue is needed as the capacity of the Olympic pool at MSAC is not large enough to meet the demands of the public. The new center  could be built over the top of the outdoor pool which was used for the 2006 commonwealth games, or in the park land around the MCG near Punt Road Stadium.

 Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Center

Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Center is a world class green center, it plays host to a diverse range of events throughout the year. Hall 1 of the center would be used for Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, and Wrestling. Hall 2 is the proposed venue for Badminton and Hall 3 Weightlifting. The only work need to the building is for the seats to be put in place.

 

Hisense Arena

Hisense Arena is a multipurpose arena in Melbourne Park it is also the home of cycling Victoria with a Velodrome in place. The capacity of the arena would be increased from 4,500 to 6,500 and play host to track cycling.

The Melbourne Olympic Dome (new venue)

The Melbourne Olympic Dome is a new venue which will be the largest multipurpose venue in Australia with a capacity of 25,000+. The dome will be located in Olympic park next to the new Melbourne Rectangular Stadium. The Olympic Dome will hold the following events, Basketball, Handball, Tennis Finals, and Volleyball Indoor.

 

National Water Sports Center

The National Water Sports Center was also built for the 1996 Olympic bid but has since been reduced, for the 2028 Olympics the venue will be modernized and redesigned to current Olympic standards. If the facilities are inadequate a new center could be built at Geelong or Canberra with rowing events on Lake Burly Griffin. The facilities would be used for Rowing, Canoe Kayak Slalom, and Canoe Kayak Flatwater.

 

Margaret Court Arena & Show Court

Margaret Court Arena & Show Court are facilities used for the Australian Open and would provide a venue for the Tennis Preliminaries. No work is needed for these venues.

 

State Netball Hockey Center

State Netball Hockey Center was built for the 2006 commonwealth games. The venue would be home to Hockey for the Olympics. A new grandstand would need to be constructed on the opposite side of the current grandstand to provide greater capacity.

 

 

 Rpd Laver Arena

Rod Laver Arena is the main arena for the Australian Open, it has a capacity of 14,820. For the Olympics it will be the Gymnastics Center for Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline Gymnastics.

State Mountain Bike Course

State Mountain Bike Course was created for the 2006 commonwealth games and will be the Mountain Bike Venue for the 2028 Olympics.

 Royal Exhibition Building

The Royal Exhibition Building was the home for the first Australian Parliament and will hold the fencing event for the Olympics. This venue will provide a stunning backdrop for fencing. All that is needed is for the temp seating to be erected and the fencing court to be constructed.

ANZ Stadium Sydney

ANZ Stadium Sydney was the main stadium for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and will provide a venue for the Football Preliminaries.

Suncorp Stadium Brisbane

Suncorp Stadium Brisbane will also be a venue for Football Preliminaries.

Perth Stadium Perth

Perth Stadium Perth to be completed by 2016 will also host some Football Preliminaries events. Construction on this venue is on hold.

  Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

Melbourne Rectangular Stadium at Olympic Park is due to be completed by 2009 with a capacity of 31,500 with foundations to allow future expansions to a capacity of 50,000 which will be done before the 2020 Olympics.

Melbourne International Shooting Club

The Melbourne International Shooting Club will host the shooting events for the Olympics.

Werribee Park

Werribee Park is the proposed venue for the Equestrian and Archery events. This venue will provide a stunning backdrop for the events.

St Kilda Beach 

St Kilda Beach will be the host of the Beach Volleyball. St Kilda Beach is a famous Melbourne beach which will provide great facilities. Temp seating will need to be put in place before the games.

Port Phillip Bay

Sailing will be held on Port Phillip Bay

Victorian BMX Center

A New BMX Center will be built prior to the games.

City Circuit

A City Circuit with a start and finish at the MCG for the Marathon.

Docklands Walk

The Walk will be held at Docklands.

Royal Botanical Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens will provide a Circuit for the Cycling Road.

Albert Park

The Triathlon will be held at Albert Park.
